Install Ventrilo on Ubuntu 11.x and 12.x Email. # sudo apt-get install ia32-libs. Create a user for ventrilo to run under # sudo useradd ventrilo. Download the linux version to your /installs directory extract the files and change current directory to what we just extracted.
UPDATE: See bottom.Hi. I'm not sure if this is the right forum to put it in, but by all means move it if not.
A little ways back, in the ubuntu forums I believe, someone posted their own script to install ventrilo in wine and fixed a couple common problems in doing so. If anyone finds this thread, or knows the name of the script writer, PLEASE inform me so I can give proper credit, as they wrote 70% of this script I am posting here. I just heavily edited it to counter a couple problems and include text-to-speech and include a couple small conveniences. I also have it so that it is easily fixed in case a link to one of the files it downloads gets broken (open it in your favorite editor, edit the URL line for the bad file with a good link), and easy to change the directory and such. I also edited it to allow for you to install multiple versions of ventrilo for those of you who know more than 1 group of players who use differing non-backwards-compatible versions of ventrilo by changing 2 lines of the script at the top (URL and version number), which also makes updating to a new version convenient. The older script also failed to remove the ventrilo installer file, which I fixed. I included the installers for the 2 most common versions of ventrilo in this post (the file only differs by the URL and version number lines) for your convenience.
I've only tested these a few times before I posted with fixes, but everything appears to be in order. If you have problems (that I can fix, lol) please respond.
Attached to this post are the 2 zip files containing the scripts, installers for 2.3.0 and 3.0.1. Just unzip them and READ THE BLOODY README BEFORE YOU DO ANYTHING. Also, you will of course need to install wine. I have only confirmed the Text-To-Speech to work in the newest version of wine, 0.9.52. Please confirm for me if it works on an older version. If TTS doesnt work on your version, I'm fully sure it does on 0.9.52 so you may wish to update. See the winehq.com page for info on installing wine's gutsy repositories, update your files list, then install wine. If you have no idea what I mean by this, please post and I'll give a step-by-step to install wine 0.9.52.
That is all.

EDIT: Upon further search of the ubuntu forums, I think I found the thread I got the script from. I think the place I originally downloaded it was http://kanava.org/~hifi/linuxventrilo.sh , but the link is dead now and I still don't know who the actual author is to give due credit, or if that is even the correct original page. It was just referenced by one of the users on those forums.
UPDATE:
I've also fixed a couple small bugs concerning ventrilo2.ini being hardcoded to -my- setup (oopsies! hehe. strangely enough, vent seemed to work anyway in another setup with another user name on another machine i tried!) and default.vet not being included or generated by ventrilo. If you downloaded before, you may wish to re-download, delete /home/yourname/ventrilo3 (or ventrilo2), and the directory /home/yourname/.ventrilo3 (or .ventrilo2) and install again. I don't think it would cause problems to warrant starting over that way, but do so if necessary. The new files are attached.
